Lifestyle Evangelism

No evangelism approach is acceptable if the motive is impure or deficient. It appears some evangelism approaches clearly do not measure up to what Jesus expects.

Evangelism is vital to every Christian’s lifestyle. Studying the different approaches of evangelism was an eyeopener. Not only are there multiple styles, but there are also controversial ones. If you’re thinking “any kind of evangelism approach is better than none at all, think a

Lifestyle evangelism emphasizes living a holy life among unbelievers with the goal of attracting people to the message of Jesus Christ. More than one approach of lifestyle evangelism exists; however, the model does not function without criticism. Lifestyle evangelism has been popular since the 1990s, and many Western Christians have sought to share their faith through their lifestyle in addition to their verbal testimony.

Lifestyle Evangelism

Lifestyle evangelism focuses on building relationships with one person at a time. This approach does not seem to be in sync with commands of the Great Commission, since it does not make going out to make disciples of all nations a priority.
“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Matthew 28: 29-20

Some believe that lifestyle evangelism fails to live up to God’s expectations because it does not share the gospel verbally. Critics may have a point here since in Eph. 2:8-9 the Word tells us  “Forby grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of
yourselves: it is the gift of god: not of works, lest any man should boast.”

Doing good works is not enough; we must speak the truth. However, this does not mean that we cannot expand ways to evangelize. The thing to remember is not to substitute methods that clearly do not meet God’s expectations “But I do not account my life of any value nor as precious to myself, if only I may finish my course and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.” Acts 20: 24
