Teach Me Thy Way

Psalms 86:11

“Teach me thy way, O LORD; I will walk in thy truth: unite my heart to fear thy name.” Psalms 86:11 King James Version (KJV)

Teach me thy way, oh Lord is a powerful ask. For this reason, I want God to know I’m for real. I understand full well the gravity of making divine requests under false premises. So, Father God, please believe me when I ask you to, “teach me Thy way.” Believe me, when I say, I know there is no other way, but through the Father and that only intentional request will be heard by You.

The thing is, God wants his children to have undivided hearts, hearts that fear his name in a good way. A divided heart subjects the bearer to unfaithfulness and a reluctance to depend on God for all things. Depending on God means reducing oneself to student status throughout life. Depending on God means choosing humility over selfish pride. Lastly, depending on God means allowing him to teach that which is only known by the Teacher.

A sign of having learned the Lord’s way is evidenced when encountering moments of trials and tribulation, as we walk in truth. The evidence is when “deep down inside we believe with all our hearts we are not alone.” This level of spiritual confidence can only be achieved through the teachings of the Word.

The word ‘believer” says it all. Believers walk in Truth, fear the Lord’s name, and rely on his faithfulness knowing and believing God does not make promises He does not keep. He is faithful to all who believe with all their heart. Believing with all your heart means the heart is whole, undivided where the Lord is concerned.

God’s Word resides in the Holy Bible. The only way to learn it is to allow the Father to teach the student his way.

As I look back over my life I notice the Lord never gives up on his children, his students, his projects. Yes, we are all projects in one way or another in the Spirit as well as in the flesh. Some people like projects, they see them as challenging, something worth the work and effort. Then there are those who have no heart or patience for projects. They have no desire to be taught by the Great I am, sadly they have rejected God’s Word eventually left to wrestle with man’s own devices devised temptation and foolery.

“Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices.” Proverbs 31 (KJV). “For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them.” Proverbs 32 (KJV)

These are people who have divided hearts. Many profess to be believers but, in reality, have forgotten much of God’s Word. This is what happens when one memorizes instead of internalizes. Internalizing God’s Word joins the heart, making way for reconciliation and healing.

“Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.” Psalm 119:11  King James Version KJV https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/Psalms-119-11/

Following in the footsteps of Jesus Christ is a lifelong journey. The path is not always straight, clear, or unencumbered by any means. It is during these times we must lean on the teachings of Christ and rely on God’s unchanging hand to lead us out of spiritual bondage.

We are living in disturbing times, yet these times have been prophesized. “In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength.” Isaiah 30:15
