The Parable of the Sower and the Seed is one of my favorite parables. It’s Bible passages are penned in Luke 8:4-15. Accordingly, readers find many examples of God working all throughout our lives. The author Apostle Luke uses simple terms and layman’s logic to uncloud and express the purpose and intent of the parable. However, the Main Task Of The Parable Of The Sower And The Seed Is To Prevent Weeds.
While not so obvious at first, the main task of The Parable of the Sower and the Seed is to vividly characterize the essence of Christian living as well as what is required to achieve and attain the same. Particularly, gardeners plant seeds during certain times of the year according to region. While this information may seem insignificant it is not. When seeds are planted out of season growth may be stunted or thwarted completely due to mother nature. Now let’s affix “The Parable of the Sower and the Seed” to real life. Since the Main Task Of The Parable Of The Sower And The Seed Is To Prevent Weeds Christians must choose. Weeds are bad and seeds are good if planted according to God’s instructions.
Thus, Christians must select seeds suited to producing godly fruit which is the Word of God. When planting seeds in Midwest fields frost-covered grounds must be prepared to receive the seeds. We are the frost-covered grounds in need of preparation. We have been chosen to plant seeds in the world to lead God’s people to Christ. To lead others to Christ our light must shine so that the love of God illuminates from within our hearts where the Word of God lives.
11 Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. 12 Those by the way side are they that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved. 13 They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away. 14 And that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection. 15 But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience. https://www.bible.com/bible/1/LUK.8.KJV
Equally important, Luke 8: 4-15 hurls the consequences of living an ungodly life into the spotlight. Using the process of sowing seeds is brilliant because people can easily envision the purpose, process and perceived outcome of gardening tasks. The passage states that “12 Those by the way side are they that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved. 13 They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away. 14 And that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection.” Luke 8: 12-14
Much like life the desired outcome is not always as planned. To accomplish a positive outcome there are specific steps that must be followed to the letter. To enumerate, the seed is the Word of God and must be planted to hide it in the heart. Unless it is hidden in the heart it has no root. Without roots fruit and vegetation seeds cannot grow to yield good produce. In other words, The Word of God must become the part of you that stays, and does not come and go.
Unrooted seed is easily chocked out, blown away and even eaten by some wild. In truth, the same applies to life when we decline to hide God’s Word in our hearts. Life chokes us out, and makes every situation feel overwhelming. Therefore, when temptation comes along the one who has not the Word of God hidden in their heart becomes easy prey for the evil one. He plays on the spiritually weak and lures them into darkness.
The most powerful tools in Satan’s arsenal impart; the spirit of impatience, restlessness, seeds of doubt, sadness, insecurity and lack of commitment These spirits are designed to destroy as in negatively affect one’s state of salvation. Satan will always summon you to do the opposite of what God wants you to do, that’s how you know who he is and what his mission is. Satan wants you to become impatient, overly eager, easily impressed and obsessed with things that are temporary, like youth, riches, and enjoying addictive pleasures of life. He knows those things are not maintainable or sustainable yet he makes it appear as though they are. Essentially, it is impossible to produce good fruit from bad seed. Satan’s seed is bad!
Remember, to begin the process of sowing seed the ground must be disturbed, broken up so that the seeds can be inserted deep enough to germinate, sprout and yield healthy crops. The process used to disturb the ground entails precise engagement to create organized rows that serve to keep seeds properly spaced and segregated within designated holes. This is important and necessary to prevent undesirable entanglement. Allowing Satan to trick us is entanglement.
In conclusion, there can be no fruit without proper planting, and acceptable seeds. Deeply inserted seeds represent the Word of God which encompass the Holy Spirit.
