The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, but God did say, “You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.” Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden?” Genesis 1: -3.
In Genesis 3: 1, coined the Fall, we find the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord made. He taunted Eve, saying, “did God really say, You must not eat from any tree in the garden?”
The woman said to the serpent that we may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, but God did say you must not eat fruit from the tree in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it. You will die.
Here we see that evening exactly what she was supposed to do; however, she did the wrong thing because she allowed the serpent to get into her head.
The Ultimate Contribution to Calamity Continued…
4 “You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. 5 “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
6 When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. 7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves. Genesis 3: 1 NIV)
You will certainly die; you will surely not God, the serpent said to the woman.
This is really important; God had already been saying, “if you eat from the tree, you will die.” His Word was Law and the ultimate Authority over the tree He created. Yet Eve gave Satan her ear. He began to speak words of receipt to convince Eve to betray God.
Again the serpent said, if you eat from the tree, you will certainly not die. He said for God knows that your eyes will be opened when you eat from it, and you will be like God, knowing Good and Evil. Little did Eve know “knowing good from evil is not a good thing.” She did not understand that knowing good and evil brings pain, embarrassment, shame, jealousy, envy, strife, and the like. Essentially, the repercussion of Eve’s sin was passed on to each future generation. We see evidence of her transgression every time the spirit of jealousy does a hostile take over of precious space in our hearts. Furthermore, whenever sorrow becomes more than we think we can bear, we can thank Eve because sorrow and jealousy were elements once enslaved within the Tree of Knowledge, in the Garden of Eden, Adam, and Eve’s garden.
Like Satan, man would have the unwise belief he can control good and bad, but we know that is not true. Not only can he not control how or when good or bad things happen, likewise he cannot take away the pain, sorrow, trials, or tribulation this life affords humans. Knowing these things, believers should reject the dream, which in reality is Satan’s gift of nightmares devised to use when he goes out to seek, kill, and destroy.
So the Bible says when the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye and was desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. At this point, the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realize they were naked! This was the first consequence of eating from the forbidden tree; they knew they were naked. So they sewed fig leaves together and make coverings for themselves. Before this, Adam and Eve did not know of nakedness.
Conceivably, one of Satan’s most successful tools is “‘Deception,” an ability to trick people and convince them to do as you want or that they need more than they have, and sometimes at any cost. The spirit of entitlement is an evil one borne out of successful deception tactics. The entitlement spirit provokes the possessor to expect special treatment and respond to others indifferently while expecting undue favor. The entitled one has either forgotten about or does not know Acts 10:34
The Bible addresses man’s ego, pride, and self-love in different Scriptures throughout the Bible. Because the issue is highlighted numerous times indicates how important not showing favoritism to select people is to Jesus. Today is an excellent time to search your soul. Do you crave a show of preference in the presence of others? You know if you are one of those people who do.
If you are dying to be recognized or set apart from your brother or sister, even if it means debasing them, then ask God to humble you this moment! God hates pride.
Let’s be clear. Eve yielded to temptation, and then she surrendered to the master deceiver!
Satan tricked Eve, making her think she deserved something God refused to give her?
Guess what? Satan is still up to the same old tricks today.
Look, it is later than we think! Basically, time is not on our side. Not only is time running out, but we also do not know how long we have to get right with God. Believers are under attack from all sides. Staying strong requires more and more support, spiritual, emotional, and even psychological, sometimes. How many times have you asked the Lord, “how much more can I bear?” Let’s be honest, sometimes knowing God does not give us more than we can bear does not always give us comfort. This, my brother and sister, is the life we have been charged to live but not without warning.
All throughout life, Satan works tirelessly, sowing seeds of doubt to weaken our faith. He does this because he can’t destroy a woman or man of faith. Faith is spiritual armor! Faith is every Christian’s most powerful weapon against Satan! Faith is the fuel that drives believers to stay the course in the midst of darkness, chaos, collision, and uncertainty. Satan is an expert at dissolving hope, stealing dreams, confusing clarity, and busting through insecurity.
Read the following Scriptures to reinforce your faith and fight the devil off.
“God blesses those who patiently endure testing and temptation. Afterward, they will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.” James 1:12
Scripture for when you have the audacity to think because you see no way out God does not see one either.
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” Isaiah 55: 8-9
Scripture for when you have caused your own calamity!
“Desire without knowledge is not good– how much more will hasty feet miss the way! A person’s own folly leads to their ruin, yet their heart rages against the LORD.” Proverbs 19: 2-3
