Week One Devotional
When God reveals humans heal in ways only Christians can comprehend.
“Handle Me and see, for a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see I have” (Luke 24:39, NKJV)
Not only is God known, But He also lives and makes himself known by letting his light shine in our darkness. “God is light; in him, there is no darkness at all. “6 If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.” 1 John 1: 5-7
God tells us what He is like in many different passages of the Bible. While He did create man in His image, a man seems to imagine himself differently when he strives to live ungodlily. However, no matter how disobedient the Father’s children are He still loves them. In fact, God loves us so much that He reveals himself in mysterious ways by rescuing us from ourselves when we least expect His presence.
When I look back over my life, I can’t help but recognize the numerous times that he rescued me from heart-wrenching situations. I have had more than one “Burning Bush” moment, and every one of them made me stronger, wiser and more endeared to God. Frankly, there are more times than I can count. I know it was Him, because, through my eyes, I just could not see a way out.
The Lord certainly revealed himself to me when I lost my 18-year-old-son, in 1994, when an inexperienced 21-year-old driver struck and killed him. The dark one-stepped right into my life on its darkest day. He tried to confuse my spirit by repeatedly telling me that I couldn’t go on without my son, would never learn to live with the loss or forgive the driver who struck him.
For a while, I not only believed his lies, but I felt hopeless, angry and confused, unable to find my way. But, one morning, almost a year after my son was killed, God spoke to me. He woke me up early one morning; He said it’s time!
Really, these are the words the Lord whispered in my ear.
I got up, put away these things; my son’s death certificate, the accident report, his clothes that were returned to me after he was transported to the funeral home, and my anger toward the 21-year old woman who lost control of her vehicle, before striking him. God is able, never early, all-knowing and worthy of praise.
Sometimes we don’t immediately recognize when God reveals himself. Perhaps that’s because sometimes we get too full of ourselves, which leaves no room for God. Another thing, God shows up when we are at our lowest, empty, and open to correction, help or guidance. This is the state of mind where He does his best work.
I agree, “Whatever we may say about God, we cannot say that He is unknown.”
